Our Story

Everyone loves a good story right? Well, this is the story of Búla Box.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm Maddie, founder of Búla Box. Myself and my Fiancé Breff set off traveling in September 2019 and arrived in New Zealand shortly after. When New Zealand went into lockdown I was working in a school in Wellington. One of my colleagues knew I was missing family and friends at the time (Ireland felt even further away with a pandemic in the mix) so she sent me a mini care package full of chocolates and sweets. It brightened my mood right up.

I went searching online because I wanted to share the love and send some treats to family and friends who were having a rough time back home but found it hard to find the perfect fit - something thoughtful, affordable, easy and delicious. I wanted to let them know I was thinking of them without breaking the bank.

Fast forward a few months, some skiing, hiking, an engagement and lot's of kiwi onion dip in between... Myself and Breff moved back to Ireland (West Cork more specifically - a great part of the world for plotting) and Búla Box was born.

Breff chose the name, a nod to bualadh bos (Clap Hands) - a nostalgic phrase for anybody who went to primary school in Ireland *bualadh bos, bualadh bos, bualadh bos go léir... Tied in with my own background as a primary school teacher, Búla Box just made sense.

We believe presentation is essential and so I have put a lot of effort into creating a gift box that I think will really make people smile. Plus all of our packaging is either recyclable or compostable - blog post to follow.

I contacted the best of Irish suppliers to come up with 4 Búla Boxes (to start!!) that I am so proud of... so what are you waiting for, get browsing and experience the joy of giving.
